Donum getting a bigger footprint in Hong Kong…

As reported last time, we organized the first ever outside-of-the-US Donum Wine Dinner at the HK Golf Club. Some of you may be aware that Donum is already on the wine list of the famous restaurant Duddell’s. The latest is that we are collaborating with Club C+ to make Donum wines available to its members.

Club C+ is the brainchild of Steve Leung, who was first trained as an architect and then develops his career into interior design, product design and the hospitality industry. He has been awarded 14 times by Andrew Martin International Interior Design Awards as the best designer, the virtual Oscar for the interior design industry.

Club C+ is an exclusive members-only cigar club situated at the heart of the Central business district. It is where cigar connoisseurs can meet like-minded folks to enjoy themselves over smoke, a few drinks and a good chat under a tasteful, comfortable setting. Lunch and dinner will be possible with advance booking. We are very proud that Donum wines will be featured in the wine list there as indeed both Club C+ and Donum share the common DNA with their offered products conceived from agriculture, contrived through technique and craftmanship culminating as expressions of art in form and spirit.

So much for that and let us bring your attention to some of our recent additions that might interest you:

2018 Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchere Monopole (WA95 at HK$950) – This brilliant Burgundy white wafts from the glass with aromas of pear, hazelnut, almonds, dried white flowers and a touch of smoke. On the palate, it is medium to full bodied, deep, multi-dimensional, with terrific concentration but never heavy, ending with a long, searing finish.

2017 Pierre Yves Colin Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru (WS97 at HK$3,100) – From a well known Burgundy producer, this is a live wire of a white, with a racy, resonant structure that sets the stage for high-impact flavours of peach, apple pie, vanilla and toast, all coming together midpalate before fanning out on the long, expansive finish.

2016 Hdye de Villaine Chardonnay (WA95 at HK$570/bottle) – This Napa estate is a JV by the Hyde family of the US and the de Villiane family, co-owner of the legendary Domaine de la Romanee Conti…and surely they know about making good wines! Allow it to sit in the glass for 15 minutes to reveal citrus blossom, lime peel, apple, crushed stone and minerality. It has a silky texture, tangy lift and a very long finish.

2019 Villa Maria Keltern Chardonnay (VN96 at HK$260/bottle) - Full-bodied expansive white from New Zealand, there is almost a deceptive depth, with the firm acidity piercing the core of fruit to provide purpose from the entry to the lengthy, textural finish.

2008 La Conseillante (RP95 at HK$1,000/bottle) – Our favourite Pomerol estate and if you like Lafleur and Trotanoy, you will like this not least for the quality but the value too. Medium to full bodied with fruits, crushed rocks and floral notes, some say it to be the Musigny equivalent of Bordeaux.

2012 Smith Haut-Lafitte (RP95 at HK$700/bottle) – We are re-stocking this excellent Bordeaux red which got sold out quickly on all previous occasions. Medium to full bodied, with plenty of black fruits and on top, licorice, graphite and a very long finish. Don’t miss it this time!

2015 Giscours (JS96 at HK $460) – From the Margaux region of Bordeaux, it opens with expressive cassis, blackberry and red currants on the nose with touches of cedar chest, roses and pencil lead. This is a medium to full bodied wine with plenty of fruits, fine grained tannins and a long finish.

2015 Argiano Brunello di Montalcino (WA95 at HK$320/bottle) – Good valued Tuscany red that shows a lively and expressive bouquet of dried rose, lavender, wild berries, earth, with notes of earth, spice and a hint of medicinal herbs.

2018 Vina Zorzal Senora de Las Alturas (WA95 at HK$260/bottle) – Small production (under 2,000 bottles) Grenache from Spain, this is a great valued red with a nice structure, harmony and subtlety.
