Short Time No See!!!

When yours truly’s better half complaint about our last newsletter being long winded on the subject of football, we have to take note and so that’s not what will be covered this time😊.

And in case you wonder why another posting so quickly, it is because yours truly will be travelling the second and third week of August. We will have access to e-mails and can also be in touch via WhatsApp. Wine delivery though will be suspended for about 18 days. So let us know quickly if you need anything and we will fulfill your requests in the next few days.

Feel free to go to our website www.vinopolis.com.hk to browse the full wine list. Purchases can be made through the website or by sending us an e-mail or simply WhatsApp 9195-7383. The following are highlights of some of our latest additions:

2020 Kumeu River Hunting Hill Vineyard Chardonnay (JS96 at HK$380/bottle) – Our favourite New Zealand white that is plush, generous and silky, with flavours of peach, grilled pineapple, toasted hazelnut, a touch of honey and a lengthy finish with some citrus notes.

2020 Familia Zuccardi Fosil Chardonnay (VN95 at HK$380/bottle) – Complex Argentinian white with nose of green apple, hazelnut, lemon and a hint of ginger, all to complement the creamy structure and the lingering finish.

2015 Doyard Extra Brut 1er Cru Clos de L’Abbaye (WA96+ at HK$860/bottle) – Full bodied grower champagne with aromas of citrus, warm bread and honeycomb out of a layered structure and completed with a resonant finish. Excellent value for what it has to offer!!!

2016 Chateau de Beaucastel CNDP Rouge (WA97 at HK$380/half) – This full-bodied Rhone red will send you blown away with layers of berry fruits, garrigue and spice, all unfolded across a seamless palate. Creamy, lush and rich, it is as good as anything from the region.

2020 Domaine Charles Audoin Marsannay les Favieres 1er Cru (JS99 at HK$580/bottle) – James Suckling has rated this among the top 10 releases for 2022 and remarked “Like staring into a deep dark pool, except that the pool is full of forest berries and, with every swirl of the glass, you see deeper into it, yet never reach the bottom. Staggering concentration and finesse on the expansive palate, the graceful tannins driving the mind-blowing intense, almost endless finish” Need we say more? And only for HK$580/bottle!!!

2016 Giscours (JS96 at HK$1,200/magnum) – If you ever need a good and price-friendly magnum for a bigger party, this can be a great choice. The wine gives up aromas of cassis, chocolate, earth, tar, pepper and touches of flower on top of fruits. The palate is medium to full-bodied with well-defined structure and a long finish.

2011 Chateau Palmer (RP96 at HK$2,100/bottle) – One of the superstars of the vintage as it reveals a stunning bouquet of black fruits, licorice, truffles, camphor and spring flowers. The palate is that of medium to full-bodied, with good concentration, purity and a remarkable finish of close to a minute. A tour de force in winemaking!!!

2013 Le Macchiole Messorio (WA98 at HK$1,500/bottle) – This Tuscany red is a truly divine creation that puts Merlot on a well-deserved pedestal. A complete wine that accurately doses out its intensity with flavours of dark fruits, spice, leather, tar and tobacco, with the support of fine integrated tannins and textural richness. Some 10,000 bottles were produced and it will not fade for decades to come.

Thank you for reading and wishing you a great weekend ahead!!!
