We are almost 5 years old!!!

Wine has always intrigued us. We read about it when we were students and started gaining real experience through tasting many examples as we were into our career. It quickly developed into a passion which is getting stronger every day. The more wines we drink, the more we realize how much there is still to learn. And the more we communicate with you, the more we know how much room there is still to improve.

Those who have worked with us for some time know that we were inspired by a very good wine retailer in Portland (Oregon) to set up Vinopolis Hong Kong in 2018. Comparative and competitive prices are our own form of obsession. Other than Burgundies where we sometimes need to strike a balance, our wines are rated mostly at 95 points and higher at prices that are among the lowest you can find in the Hong Kong market.

As we are approaching the 5th anniversary of operating, we want to thank all of you for your support. We are a small set up and would readily admit that we are not anywhere close to being excellent. If we are lacking in size and scale, we hope to make it up with our service attitude.

Now our recommendation to you on some of our latest additions:

2018 Pape Clement Blanc (WA95 at HK$950/bottle) – From one of our favourite Bordeaux estate, this white races out the gate with flamboyant scents of pineapple, lemon pie and peaches, plus hints of orange blossoms and yuzu peel. The medium to full-bodied palate has a touch of oiliness to the texture which exhibits spicy sparks, finishing long with refreshing zest. A richer and more sumptuous expression than your average Bordeaux white and it’s good!!!.

2019 Envinate Palo Blanco (WA97 at HK$400/bottle) – Our new Spanish endeavour with a dry white from the Canary Islands out of Listan Blanco grapes, this is a good one with elegance while not lacking power. The palate is sharp, precise, layered and with depth. About 10,000 bottles produced.

2020 Kumeu River Hunting Hill Vineyard Chardonnay (JS96 at HK$380/bottle) – Good named New Zealand white that some say having a resemblance to Burgundies. It is a complex Chardonnay with yellow citrus, lemon curd, hazelnuts and creamy notes. The palate has an all-encompassing, fresh peachy flavours, building impressively through the long and full finish.

2014 Lynch-Bages (WA95 at HK$880/bottle) – A favourite Bordeaux name for many with this vintage presenting excellent value. It offers a classic bouquet of rich and vibrant blackcurrant mingled with hints of cedar, vanilla and soil. Full-bodied, deep and layered, there is an abundance of ripe and slightly assertive tannin that will soften with time. Long and resonant finish.

2009 Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru (WA95 at HK$1,300/bottle) – This Burgundy red reveals superb aromatic complexity and delineation, with expressive floral scents making it intense and powerful but also marvelously elegant. The higher altitude of the vineyard helps preserve a measure of freshness. There is certainty of reward for those who are patient enough to lay down this wine for another 10 years. But then who can resist the temptation of uncorking a bottle now?

2009 Paul Jaboulet Aine Domaine Thalabert Crozes Hermitage (RP95 at HK$350/bottle) – Robert Parker opined this to be the greatest Crozes-Hermitage Domaine de Thalabert together with the 1990 vintage. A nice French Syrah offering an explosive bouquet of blackberries, sweet cherries, licorice, olives, graphite and subtle smoke, it is full-bodied with silky tannins as well as a terrific mouthfeel and palate penetration. A gorgeous wine at a great price!!!

2013 Terroir Al Limit Arbossar (WA95+ at HK$400/bottle) – This good red from Priorat is 100% Carinena from a vineyard planted 90 years ago in the Catalonia region of Spain. It is very red fruit driven and full of flowers and minerals. The tannins are ultra sleek, elegant and balanced. Less than 5,000 bottles produced.

2016 Dominus Napanook (JS96 at HK$470) – By the team of Donimus who shares the same ownership as the legendary Ch. Petrus, this very good valued and flamboyant red offers dark berries, hazelnuts and a hint of chocolate. Full-bodied with round and soft tannins, it is fresh and layered. Enticingly delicious now but will continue to develop for another 15 years.

2013 Achaval-Ferrer Finca Bella Vista (WA95 at HK$620/bottle) – Red from Argentina out of Malbec grapes, there are wild berries, strawberries, violets and some balsamic aromas that characterize the incredibly elegant and subtle nose. The palate reveals a silky texture and acidity from juicy fruits, sophisticated tannins with great balance and length.
