Long Time No See!!!

Dear Subscribers,

The last time meeting you here was more than 2 months ago (and with that miserable look). Like to report that everything is fine and I have since been back to the cheerful me. Before taking my 2-week summer break in mid-July, I want to recommend to you some of the latest arrivals.

When it comes to French wine, many of us in Hong Kong tend to focus on Bordeaux and Burgundies. Rhone wines are excellent, usually fuller bodied and with complexity. They have aging potential and are at much more affordable prices.

A few examples of what we carry:

2006 Pierre Usseglio Mon Aieul (WA96) at HK$450/bottle – A gem in this vintage of CNDP, it is elegant, seamlessly smooth and yet with intensity of aromas and flavours.

2009 Delas Freres Sainte Epine (WA96) at HK$400/bottle – A blockbuster from Northern Rhone offering sensational notes of black raspberry, licorice, smoked meats, olives and graphite. Possibly the greatest red from St. Joseph?

2010 Domaine Senechaux (RP95) at HK$350/bottle – From CNDP, this is a hedonistic fruit bomb, full bodied and loaded with blackberries, cedar and Christmas fruitcake.

2013 M. Chapoutier St. Joseph Granits Blanc (WA96) at HK$470/bottle – A brilliant white from a famous producer with an exotic, perfumed style and offering a floral nose. It is full bodied and gives tons of white peach, caramelized citrus, brioche and orange marmalade.

If any of you are looking for something from Down Under, let me recommend to you:

2005 Torbreck the Factor (WA97) at HK$570/bottle – 100% Shiraz from Barossa with an expressive flavour of black fruits, hints of leather and mineral complimented with layers of spices, providing a long long finish…a great wine that has never been priced better.

2013 Penfolds St. Henri Shiraz (WA97) at HK$500/bottle – A medium to full bodied wine that is elegant in its palate of many fruit and spice, ending with a long finish. At a fraction of the price of the Grange, it is where the smart money goes for stocking in the cellar.
